Blogs to browse this weekend

The way I see it Melbourne’s worth hopping a plane to visit any day of the week.

Last Friday I flew in for Kidspot’s Voices of 2015 launch and the announcement of their top online creatives. Whilst I didn’t take home a gong, I did come home agog at this inspiring community of online movers and shakers.

I was particularly moved by an impromptu chat with Julia from Five Fairies and a Fella. My words won’t do it justice, so please pop over to her blog and then take a peek at her new book.

I’d also like to tip my lid to Kelly Burstow from Be A Fun Mum. She gave a powerful presentation that touched on the importance of kindness and humility; two traits Raychael from Agent Mystery Case understands. Raychael was one of the first bloggers to reach out to me online and I was so excited to finally meet her face to face.

Meanwhile, I also met The Freedom Travellers. They swapped corporate life for life in transit and the results are pretty gosh darn amazing. They ooze health and happiness which, if you ask me, is a pretty formidable formula. (p.s. their business card folds into a paper plane which is also pretty neat)

The Freedom Travellers, Victoria and Elaina.

I plonked myself at a table of strangers who were so warm and welcoming, I just knew their blogs would be too. Make sure you have a look-see at Life at no. 2, Country Life Experiment and Helen’s Home Base. Special mention to Sarah from The Routine Queen who kindly took the snap below. I was hoping to include a photo of her too but it was getting late in the day when we got snap happy and unfortunately some of my pics were a little too blurry for publication.

countrylife

Bel (from Life at no. 2) and Jo (from Country Life Experiment) and some cheesy grinner (from Tonia with an Eye)

Cue: Reunited and it feels so good…I first met Nathalie from Easy Peasy Kids at a Problogger training event and she is just as lovely as I remembered. Together, we chatted with Dani from Eat My Street. I’m now officially addicted to her blog and can’t wait to read more.

easyp

Some gal who wears a name tag on the centre of her chest (from Tonia with an Eye), Nathalie (from Easy Peasy Kids) and Dani (from Eat My Street)

Two final shout-outs, if I may. The Garnier goodies were much appreciated, as were the treats served at lovely Leonda by the Yarra.

Thanks Merilyn. I’ll definitely pop over and have a look at A Beach Cottage and Colour Me Anna – they sound right up my alley. (p.s. I’ve been enjoying I Spy Plum Pie, based on your recommendation a little while ago). I love that you found me through Raychael; she’s so lovely, as are you! Have a good weekend. xx

      • Thanks for the introduction and for the kind words from both of you. Blogging isn’t always easy and I’ve been at a bit of a blogging cross road lately wondering why I continue and where I should be heading. It’s comments like this that make it all worthwhile.

Oh Raychael, I really hope you find a clear path through that crossroad. You do such good work and you’re an invaluable part of the blogging community. Onwards and upwards, I say. I know it was a big trek to make it over for Voices but I’m crossing fingers and toes you’re planning another venture east for Problogger, yes? Here’s hoping. Have a restful weekend, especially after all of last weekend’s travel. xx

They sure are Ingrid. This post is the tip of the blogging iceberg! I’m guessing I met another dozen at least! Pity you won’t be at Problogger – next year, perhaps?

  • I really wanted to spend more time with you on Saturday. There wasn’t nearly enough time for catching up with everyone.

Ditto! These things are always a bit of a blur. I was just happy to have the opportunity to put a face to your name (no more mystery!) x

  • Thanks for the shout out Tonia! Couldn’t agree more re- Julia, was an amzing woman and Vic and Elania- they’re livin the dream.
Meanwhile..remember how my car keypad wouldn’t work when I went to take our goodie bags out during breakfast? Yeah turns out I had left my car lights on and had a flat battery! Not a fun thing to discover at the end of a long day…RACV to the rescue!

Nooooooooooo! Golly, I hope you didn’t have to wait too long. At least it was a lovely spot to be waiting (some small consolation, I guess). I was positively pooped by 5pm. Hope this weekend’s commute is a bit smoother for you. x

  • It looks like so much fun and isn’t it ace to put so many names to faces? Looking forward to some new reading over the weekend – thanks for the tips! x

My pleasure, treasure and I’m sending big congratulations your way Sammie. As I mentioned the other day, I was so thrilled to see your name in lights. So well deserved. Hope you’re celebrating in style this weekend!

It looks like a great event. I haven’t been to any bloggy events for a couple of years but the best bit – undoubtedly – is catching up with those you know or know virtually.

    There’s always so much energy.

I didn’t know you were at the Kidspot thing! They really should have put blog names on our badges so we could have seen who was who! Sorry I missed meeting you. Agree that it was a great weekend and filled with brilliant peple and their blogs. Looking forward to reading some of the ones you mentioned here.

Ditto Laney, I wish our paths had crossed over the buffet! (p.s. how good was the food – those oysters were scrumptious). Big congratulations to you and your blog! Such great news and well deserved. Have a great weekend.

Thank you Tonia, what a lovely idea to do a wrap up! There were some great people there, weren’t there? Lovely to have met you and Dani too – plus a range of other people, some of whom you mentioned, but also Michaela from Not another Slippery Dip (we’d been chatting on line, but good to meet in person), and briefly Raychael (aka Mystery Case − I’d seen her posts, and comments on other sites before, so great to put a face to a name!)

Thanks Helen, it really was such a great day wasn’t it? I’ll pop over and check out Not Another Slippery Dip (I love the name) and yes Mystery Case is a firm favourite of mine too. Lovely to have met you. Hope you have a relaxing weekend.

  • Sounds like the event was a great hit. I would have loved to have come to Melbourne and meet other bloggers…it’s been a while. But holidays couldn’t wait! 🙂

By the way, I absolutely love that first photo of the Victorian building and autumn leaves — so beautiful!

Yes I’ve been following your pics, looks like you’re having a great time. You’re giving me the travel bug! Thanks for mentioning that photo too. It actually took me about 15mins to take it because I had to wait for a break in the pedestrian traffic. Somehow whenever I start taking photos, people appear out of nowhere. Murphy’s Law I guess. Hopefully our paths will cross at another blogging event. Enjoy the rest of your holiday and keep those lovely pics coming.

Hey Beck, thanks for popping over. Love your blog name – I’ll swing by and take a look. I’m a crafter from way back but, sadly, don’t do as much of it these days. You might be just the inspiration I need. Hope you had a nice weekend.
