Mini-break, staycation, weekend getaway … call it what you will but I will say this, a couple of days of decadence helps a post-holiday slump like nobody’s business. Now back to business. My little Brissie escape began with a bit of a bake-off. After all, a commute calls for a snack to suit.
Before I knew it, the clock had struck midnight and there wasn’t a sound from the pavement … well actually it was six at night and there was plenty of sound from the pavement at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. We were all there to see Cats. Admittedly, I’d already seen it when I was a mere kitten but this time round I was equally smitten. We chose balcony seats and I’m so glad we did. From our elevated pew, we had a good view. We were able to see every nook and crany of that magnificent set, not to mention the artwork painted on the stage — all details lost on me first time round. Delta Goodrem as Grizabella was purr-fect (sorry, I couldn’t resist). Five stars. The show wraps on Sunday so you’ll have to hotfoot it to get there before it’s curtains for Brissie’s season.
Had a wander along South Bank and loved the look of this wee watering hole. My eyes said yes but, alas, we ran out of time. All that humdrum aside, doesn’t this place look oh so warm and welcoming?
I have to say South Bank was really showing off. The weather was sublime — cue cool breeze and dappled sunlight. Hats off to the bright spark who configured a little bay of beach chairs under a beautiful shady tree. What a perfect spot to rest one’s bott.
Warning Will Robinson, this post is not sponsored. I do, however, want to give a shout-out to the guys and gals at Rydges South Bank. They made our stay so, so pleasant. Great service, yummy cuppas and cakes and thoughtful inclusions like late check-out and lovely manners. What more could a gal want? To be honest, I want another weekend just like this one.
Ok, so I’ve done Brissie. Where should my next mini-break be?
