Going global: 4 of my favourite blogs

globe2

The way I see it, my blog bookcase is officially bursting, thanks to a Melbourne meet up that introduced me to bunch of great Australian blogs.

…but what about blogs based o.s? There’s plenty of offshore talent that deserve a shout-out too. Here’s a selection of some of my favourites:

Blog: Cupcakes and Cashmere
My favourite post: Wedding Week: The Ceremony
LA-based blogger Emily Schuman writes a sweet blog about beauty, interiors and (its namesakes) food and fashion. I’ve followed Emily’s blog for about three years. In that time, she’s penned two books, married her partner G, given birth to baby daughter Sloan and launched a clothing line. That’s an impressive line-up of accomplishments, right? From what I can gather, she’s a multi-talented Mumma with a classic sense of style that captivates her readers (me included).

Blog: Express-O
My favourite post: This Week’s Gems
I’d describe Diana Mieczan as an online curator extraordinaire. She seems to have a gift for gathering beautiful bits and bobs and sharing them in a really light and lovely way. As well as seeing lots of New York…you’ll also find fashion, food, photography and philosophy. Think of Diana’s blog as your online portal to links that will surprise and delight. I like Diana’s way with words too. She’s genuinely warm and welcoming and her approach is artistic yet accessible. I had a tough time selecting my favourite post because I’m interested in virtually everything she shares. I especially fancy her This Week’s Gems series but, truthfully, you’ll enjoy this blog all year round.

Blog: SF Girl By Bay
My favourite post: Book/Shop
So many of my friends and family tell me I’d love, love, love San Fransico. I so, so, so want to go but I haven’t quite got round to planning a visit just yet. Thanks to blogger Victoria Smith, I’ve had a taste of San Fran without heading to the departures lounge. She’s since moved to LA and continues to blog about styling and interiors that are totally drool-worthy. Trust me, you’ll clock up hours raiding her blog for design inspiration and you’ll leave in absolute admiration.

Blog: Nanjing Nian
My favourite post: A Walk About Town
Victorian linguist Isabel is living in China for a year and Nanjing Nian documents her stay with vibrant images and stories that provide a very personal insight into her Asian adventures. I’m new to Isabel’s blog and I’m looking forward to seeing how the second half of the year unfolds for her.

Prove to me it’s a small world…which blogs based abroad do you follow?

Hi Tonia! Gosh, I’m so touched that you like my little blog. I’m very new to blogging myself (Sunday was my half year anniversary, woohoo!) and must say I’m finding it to be a wonderful creative outlet, plus the online community is extremely diverse and supportive. There’s this whole world out there in the land of blogging! I’m off to check out your other recommendations, especially the San Fran based one…I too have people tell me I’d love San Francisco, but have never been. One day! x

Hi Isabel, so pleased to have you here. Congrats on your anniversary too. Totally agree this blogging community of ours is such a supportive bunch. Who knows, we might meet for coffee in San Fran some day – wouldn’t that be a treat!

  • Oh some newbies to stalk. I already follow Cupcakes and Cashmere – stunning pics on that one. x

I’ve been daydreaming about having a holiday where I have time to read more but, sadly, there’s never enough hours in the day is there? Meanwhile, I hope you savour this little sampler as much as I do x

    I haven’t heard of these!
I don’t get to read anywhere near as many blogs as I would like to these days. It makes me a little sad to be honest.

    Thank you Tonia!

Like others, I feel like I don’t read as much either – I think the only one really is Humans of New York (of course), but these are great! (and thank you for your link again to the Kidspot conference, and those of us you met – it was so good, and so great to have the links to the blogs too!)

Hi Helen, yes it seems we’re all stretched for time sadly. Re: Kidspot, wasn’t it such a wonderful day? Now the countdown is well and truly on for Problogger. Hope we see you there too. x

Thanks Renee. I’m sure you’ll love these blogs. Hope to see you in a few weeks at Problogger. x

  • I really like The Daybook for her gorgeous pictures and I can completely relate to her family situation. Also recently discovered SF Girl by Bay, who I am enjoying.

Oh The Daybook’s a new one for me. Thanks Karin, can’t wait to have a look!

  • Thanks for this list Tonia – I’ve been looking for some overseas blogs to follow as I must admit, I mainly read Aussie ones. One that I do love though is Cool Mom Picks. It’s like the US version of Babyology and they find very cool stuff. It definitely appeals to the gift obsessed weirdo that I am!
