Uplifting

Artwork by Kelsey Montague

I had an uplifting Easter, thanks to artist Kelsey Montague. She created these angel wings and the social media mania (check out #whatliftsyou) that’s not only bringing art online but merging the lines between the art and the art lover. In this gal’s galleries, we’re encouraged to put ourselves in the picture. I think it’s kind of neat to see the consumer become part of the creation, don’t you?

I’m following in some pretty famous footsteps too. When Kelsey crafted her wings in New York, Taylor Swift put herself in the picture. Fortunately, or unfortunately, I didn’t have to make the trek to NY to be uplifted. Kelsey whipped up these wings during a visit to the Sunshine Coast. Look closely and you’ll spot a few of the area’s icons wonderfully woven into the wings.

As well as asking the viewer to pose for a snap, the work itself poses the question #whatliftsyou? I’ll get us started. I’m uplifted by my best friend, long walks, fossicking in op shops, catch-ups with good friends, winter’s biting breezes, cupcakes…

Now it’s your turn.

    Oh those wings are awesome!!!

Sloppy kisses from my kids, a perfect cup of coffee, long chats with a girlfriend and a hug from my mum are what lift me 🙂

The wings are divine – I just ordered a pair of wings (online) for my sneakers but now I think I also need a t-shirt in this design help me fly when my legs are tired.
The sun spilling onto my bed first thing in the morning, the smell of freshly cut grass and rain, a smile, acts of kindness both given and received, heartfelt hugs and so much more 🙂

What a fabulous idea!!! As for what ‘lifts’ my spirits…. alone time, reading, mind-numbing TV and writing.

I think it’s a fabulous idea too Deborah – that Kelsey Montague is such a gifted artist! By the way, your list sounds pretty restorative to me too. Is it wrong that I’ve just had four days off but already I’m dreaming of all those delicious things you’ve suggested?

  • Oh wow, what a fabulous idea! I love your pose too 🙂 #TeamIBOT

Thanks Bec, I was thrilled to discover Kelsey’s work – what a superstar! As for that pose, all credit to my lovely, patient photographer. Thanks for swinging by the blog.

  • Love this concept so much. What lifts me up is beautiful sunsets, the ocean’s breeze in my face, laughing kids and waking up and not feeling tired. x

Ditto Emily – Kelsey’s idea is so fantastic. Funny you mention sunsets as I literally just stopped what I was doing to step outside and see the sky lit up a billion shades of pink and crimson. Hope you had a restful and uplifting Easter x

  • Love those wings! What lifts me up is a day where my kids all get along and we reach the end of the day without having threatened each other with something ridiculous. I find that my kids’ moods affect mine massively.x

Hi Vicki, thanks for your thoughts. Totally agree, peace all around is a pretty uplifting concept. May there be more of it! x

  • I’ve got a photo of me standing in front of some angel wings when we were in Auckland a couple of years ago 🙂 . As for what lifts me up – chocolate, spending time with my hubster, upbeat music, sleep!

Oh Janet, I love that you’ve included sleep in that list. I’m pleased to report I’ve perfected the art of the lie-in over the Easter break! Bliss.

Wow! These are so special. Some people are too talented and creative for their own good. What lifts me up is a long slow swim by myself, laughs with my girls and my husband and the bagel with cream cheese which I will delight in eating tomorrow at the Brisbane Markets. Such a great initiative.

I used to swim 100 years ago and hearing you talk about its uplifting powers does make me want to dive back in! As for that bagel and cream cheese – that is also a stellar idea. Thanks for sharing your recipe Renee!

Love the wings! Hmmm…what lifts me up? Time with girlfriends, great food, laughing, board games, lake walks, good coffee, and dancing around the living room!

Nice list Jess. I’m dreaming of combining all of them…dancing and laughing around a lake with girlfriends, whilst drinking good coffee, eating great food and playing board games! Sounds good to me.

  • Love those wings – what a fantastic concept! Any art that gets people involved is always going to do well. In Perth we have just had Sculptures By The Sea. It attracts a ridiculous number of people each year and many of the popular pieces are ones that people can interact with. What lifts me? Being by the beach. Smiles and cuddles from my tornadoes. Being with family and friends. Holidays. A good glass of wine or cup of coffee. Just being happy!

Oh Tash, I’ve seen snaps of Sculptures By The Sea. I’d love to go some day and see them in the flesh, so to speak. Here’s hoping your week is full of all those lovely things that lift you. Thanks for stopping by.
